Frequently Asked Questions

Quotes and Project Information

Q: What information do I need to provide for a quote?
A: Please include your project files, material type and thickness, overall dimensions, quantity, required processes, and desired completion date. The more information you provide, the more accurate your quote will be.

Q: Can I receive a quote without submitting a file?
A: No. We need to review your project file before providing an accurate quote. Laser-cutting costs are based largely on machine time, which can only be properly estimated after we examine the number of cut lines, engraving areas, overall layout, and complexity of the design.

Q: What if I do not know all of my project specifications?
A: Complete as much of the quote form as possible and use the notes section to explain anything you are unsure about. We can help identify the appropriate material, thickness, or process, but all required fields must be completed before we can prepare a formal quote.

Q: What should I include in my uploaded file?
A: Your file should include the artwork you would like cut, scored, or engraved, along with a clearly defined material boundary. Please visit our File Prep page for templates and detailed instructions.

Q: Can I request pricing for multiple quantities?
A: Yes. Include each quantity you are considering in the quote form, and we can provide pricing options when applicable. Producing a larger quantity may reduce the per-piece cost because setup and material preparation are distributed across more units.

Q: Can I change my project after receiving a quote?
A: Yes, but changes to the artwork, material, dimensions, quantity, or deadline may affect the final price and turnaround time. Please send us the revised information or file so we can update the quote before production begins.

Pricing and Turnaround

Q: How much does laser cutting cost?
A: We charge primarily according to the amount of time your project takes on the laser cutter. Pricing may also be affected by material type and thickness, engraving time, file preparation, material handling, quantity, and overall project complexity. Submit the quote form above to receive pricing for your specific project.

Q: What factors affect the amount of laser time?
A: Projects with numerous small details, repeated shapes, dense engraving, duplicate lines, or complicated cutting paths generally take longer to complete. Simplifying your file and arranging the pieces efficiently can often help reduce machine time and cost.

Q: Is material included in the quoted price?
A: Your quote will clearly indicate whether material is included. You may purchase available materials through us or provide your own material, provided it is suitable and safe for laser cutting.

Q: Is there a minimum order size?
A: We handle projects of all sizes, from one-off prototypes and personal projects to architectural models and production runs. Our minimum order is $100.

Q: What is your standard turnaround time?
A: Standard turnaround is generally up to 7 business days. Turnaround begins after the project details are finalized, the quote is approved, and any required upfront payment has been received.

Q: Do you offer expedited service?
A: Yes. Expedited turnaround is generally up to 3 business days, depending on our schedule, material availability, and the complexity of your project. Rush service must be requested when submitting the quote form and may include an additional fee.

Q: Can you accommodate a specific deadline?
A: Let us know your required completion date when requesting a quote. We will confirm whether the deadline is possible before the project begins. Please include additional time if your completed order needs to be shipped.

Q: Do you offer file preparation services?
A: Yes. If your file is not ready for production, we can assist with file conversion, layout, line cleanup, and other necessary adjustments. File preparation services are billed at $80/hour, and we will let you know if additional file work is required before beginning.

Approvals and Payment

Q: How do I approve my quote?
A: Reply to the quote email confirming that you would like to proceed. Please make sure the material, quantity, project specifications, pricing, and turnaround time are correct before approving the project.

Q: How do I pay?
A: All projects receive an invoice by email that can be paid securely online. We do not accept cash or checks.

Q: When do I pay?
A: Payment terms depend on your material choice. If you purchase materials through us, the invoice must be paid before the project can begin. If you provide your own materials, you will receive an invoice after the project is completed, which must be paid before pickup or shipping.

Q: When does production begin?
A: Production begins after the quote has been approved, all project details have been confirmed, and any required upfront invoice has been paid. Changes made after approval may affect the price or completion date.

Materials

Q: Can I provide my own material?
A: Yes. You may provide your own material as long as it is suitable for laser cutting and fits within our machine’s size limitations. Please identify the exact material and thickness in your quote request so we can confirm that it can be safely processed.

Q: Can you order material for my project?
A: Yes. We can provide many commonly used materials or source material specifically for your project. Include the material type, thickness, color, finish, and approximate quantity in your request. Material costs must be paid before production begins.

Q: What happens if I do not know which material to use?
A: Describe the appearance, strength, flexibility, thickness, and intended use of the finished piece in the quote form. We can recommend an appropriate material based on your project requirements.

Q: Can you test my material before producing the entire order?
A: Yes. Testing needed for unfamiliar materials, delicate designs, precise assemblies, or projects requiring a specific engraved appearance. Testing and sample cutting may involve additional machine time and material costs.

Shipping and Pick-Up

Q: Do you offer shipping?
A: Yes. Although we provide local laser-cutting services from our Brooklyn studio, we can ship completed orders nationwide through UPS. Shipping and packaging costs will be added to your invoice.

Q: Can I pick up my order?
A: Yes. Completed orders can be picked up from our studio at Industry City in Brooklyn. We will contact you when the project is ready and provide any necessary pickup instructions.

Q: Can I arrange a local courier?
A: Yes. Local customers may arrange a courier or a service such as Uber Package to collect a completed order. Please wait until we confirm that the project is ready before scheduling the pickup.
